What is Iboga?
Iboga is a powerful plant medicine that comes from the root bark of the Tabernanthe iboga shrub native to Central Africa. It has been used for centuries in traditional healing and spiritual ceremonies, particularly by the Bwiti tradition in Gabon. The medicine is known for its profound ability to facilitate deep healing, personal insights, and spiritual connection.
How does Iboga differ from other plant medicines?
Iboga is often described as more introspective than other plant medicines. Rather than external visionary experiences, Iboga typically facilitates an internal journey where participants gain access to their subconscious mind, memories, and personal insights. The experience tends to be clear, lucid, and direct—often described as "defragmenting the brain" or having a conversation with a higher wisdom.

The Experience
What happens during an Iboga ceremony?
Our ceremonies typically begin in the evening. After an opening circle and blessing, participants receive their medicine and lie down on individual mats. The Iboga journey generally lasts through the night, with facilitators present at all times to provide support. The medicine works in phases—first a physical phase that may include purging, followed by a more introspective phase where insights and healing occur.
Is the experience physically challenging?
Iboga can present physical challenges including nausea, ataxia (difficulty with coordination), and sensitivity to light and sound. These effects are temporary and part of the medicine's work. Our experienced facilitators provide support throughout the process, and most participants find that the insights and healing far outweigh the temporary discomfort.
Will I be safe during the ceremony?
Safety is our highest priority. All participants undergo medical screening before being accepted. During ceremonies, our experienced facilitators monitor everyone closely. We maintain a low participant-to-facilitator ratio and have protocols in place for any situation that might arise.
After the Retreat
What kind of support is offered after the retreat?
Integration is a crucial part of the healing process. Our support includes:
-
Daily integration circles during the retreat
-
One-on-one support sessions
-
A group integration call two weeks after the retreat
-
Resources and practices for continuing your integration at home
-
Access to our community for ongoing connection
How can I maintain the benefits of my Iboga experience?
The insights gained during Iboga ceremonies often continue to unfold for months afterward. We encourage participants to:
-
Journal regularly about insights and experiences
-
Practice mindfulness and self-awareness
-
Implement small, sustainable lifestyle changes
-
Stay connected with supportive community
-
Continue working with the practices shared during the retreat
What if I struggle after returning home?
It's normal for challenges to arise during integration. We remain available for support after the retreat and can provide resources for additional help if needed. The group integration call is an opportunity to address challenges that arise after returning home.
